Such an underrated film.
Bio Pictree
Nicholas Cage' s best film
dave runner
The brother is way to emotional to be in that business.
I still like the decisive finality of the militia leader calmly placing his machete on the table, moving away half the diamonds, and then gesturing for Yuri to reassess the deal. It makes it seem so chillingly like it is: business as usual.
perry mason
Nicolas Cage's last great movie..

You wan't to know the secret to survival? Never go to war... especially with yourself.
"Evil prevails when good men fail to act."

i like the way how the african soldier look at inventory and split the diamond in half
Only Vitaly could take that many hits to the chest with a 7.62 from a Kalashnikov and then finally be killed.
I think gunrunners understand one thing;.... 'the worst thing you can do is to develop a conscience in the middle of a deal'. That crap only works in movies. In real life, it will probably earn you a one way ticket to an early grave. We talk about how money makes the world go around..yes it does, both in peace time & war time. This film is seriously underrated.
Manol Momchilov
This in the Top 5 movies of the 2000s in my opinion!
this is actually almost tame to what is happening in that part of the world now.

I agree with the final line......Evil Prevails
1:00 he probably could have saved his brother if he explained it like this ; *takes off sunglasses* "listen, if we back out of this now, they're going to kill us, probably take the guns regardless, and kill the entire village anyway. If we manage to back out and not die, and manage to take the guns with us, then either tomorrow or next week, some other gun runner is going to sell them even more guns, and the village will STILL. DIE." "The people of that village are as good as already dead, sad and unfortunate as that may be. It doesn't matter whether or not we were ever here to begin with. In the here and now, it is US, who can profit from this transaction. So, vitaly," *grabs his arm* "let us do the Smartly Pragmatic thing, and finish this deal." *walks him back the the table, with a very serious 'shut your pie-hole, or I, Will kill you' sort of look on his face.* ~they finish the deal and leave in a sports car, and vitaly, not having the stomach for gun brokering, gracefully exits stage left, out of the gun-running scene, with many years ahead of him.~ /end

Jared is so great in this.

"Only half the guns were gone, so i was still entitled to half the diamonds. IF I TOOK THEM I WAS LOST, IF I LEFT THEM I WAS LOST." This really hits me everytime i watch this scene. If he takes the diamonds he will disrespect his brothers last act which was to try and save people from being massacred and in all loosing his brother is portrayed to be a minor hiccup in his business (he is aware that in the future even if he forms a bond with anyone as a brother and even if that person dies, it would not affect him). He can see that this particular personality will take over. All he would care about is business. He died a little inside. Not from the death of his brother, but because he could not stop himself from becoming this man. If he leaves the diamonds, he would loose a lot of money, would be giving away the guns for free cause the local rebels have ties with the dictator and they will just take them anyway with or without the diamonds . You could possibly say that he would have a financial crisis. His brother just died, hes dying on the inside and having a mental breakdown but he is still seeing the material side of the transaction. Comparison between "being lost emotionally" vs "being lost financially". This is excellent stuff to watch.
The soundtrack is awesome. Love it. Reminds me of the soundtrack from Collateral.
It's not really about good or evil. Men with dark hearts and focused minds, are more willing to go out into the world and do whatever they have to, to get what they want. While the supposed "good people" of the world only preach from the pulpit, but don't want to get their hands dirty, in order to affect actual change.

Yuri was the only empathetic character in that movie. His brother was a pretty boy manchild who had no real knowledge of the world and his wife was simply a model with zero talent other than her looks, she had no business judging him for selling guns while enjoying a luxury life.
With the way they were aiming I am surprised one bullet hit Vitaly lmfao
evil prevails cause good men cant walk the walk....
Alex Le
As sad as it was, Yuri was right here. Those people were going to die that day no matter what, the only difference was whether the two brothers would get to walk away. The only thing keeping them alive was the possibility of future business with that militia, those weapons were already as good as theirs. I think I would have made the same choice as Vitaly though, there's no way I could have lived with myself even if there wasn't a better option.
4:39 thats life for ya
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father, but is of the world. John 2:15-16

his brother was a screw up in the movie but at least he cared
He decided he would rather die for a good cause rather than live for the wrong ones.
Simon Lu.
The way how the guy just split the diamonds in half was so freaking cold. This movie is awesome.

The only thing you can do to defeat evil is to become something more evil, only then you have the power to save those you want to save.
michael cristian
Oh well. The brother was STUPID!!! That's life! That's the nature of the beast! It's not about right or wrong, legal or illegal. It's just the way it is!
he was the real armsdealer
Radix Malorum
Instead of guns they would've just used Machetes to kill those people. It literally made no difference.

one of the best scenes in lord of war and in movies history
Mohammad Ahadinejad

Noble Survivor

Truth is... Elvis prevails...
Mr Toad
That warlord is pretty reasonable still paying half tbf
Vitaly was cool.
3.19 OVERKILL...
because evil is just a matter of perspective
bit of a SPOILER coming up!!!: This movie actually quite remind me of wolf of wall street, in the fact that the main characther doesn't really change, he doesn't really get caught. And the main character doesn't really have a moral sense. Loved both movies. Cage's best movie along with Adaption in my opinion!

We are already in there.
Jared gets killed a lot in movies. He’s giving Sean Bean a run for his money. Nah he’s not there yet lol
Nathaniel Dance
Here we see the Joker in his formative years.
He just tried to do exactly what the agent tried to do,save those people, even for only one day.
Mark Caro
Nicolas Cage best movie.
Better to die on your feet than live on your knees
too be in that business you have too be cold too the point of doing business with the bad guys and the good guys you have too be the one thats in the gray not choices the black or white.
if your going to be a criminal be a full time criminal not a half time criminal. morals arent unnecessary in this line of business, just do you job and leave.
That last look of betrayal when his brother put the pin back into the grenade. =,(
Mayur Panghaal
Evil may think it prevails...but not for long
Pavan K
One of Legends Nicholas Cage...
Should've just pulled the m-60 outta that truck and started massacring the "freedom fighters". Would've made for a much dumber and less realistic scene that didn't carry the same message but it would've done far more to help than just blowing up the weapons especially if he was successful.

Even when evil seemingly prevails over good. Imagine how much worse it had been were it not for the good men opposing evil every step of the way. _"If the sun comes up tomorrow, it is only because of men of good will. And that's - that's all there is between us and the devil."_ -Kenny O'Donnell (Thirteen Days). _"You're a good man; your brother is a good man. I assure you there are other good men. Let us hope the will of good men is enough to counter the terrible strength of this thing that was put in motion."_ -Dobrynin[to RFK] Sure, the cold war wasn't exactly a good and pleasant thing... but the reason it stayed cold was because of men of good will.
O K?
"last thing you want in a no win win is to found win win situation, but rather focus on own survival."
Frank Potter
Vitaly was stupid. If they do not seal the deal, others will instead.
5:05 the saying is “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” (Edmund Burke 1929-97)
In regards to the final statement. I refuse to believe that that is inevitable.
Tama Matu
Evil doesn't tend to prevail when the good guys are holding automatic guns and are shooting back.

*this movie scene never left my mind, I always wondered why vitaly did that, what was going on in his head, what sr.orlov was doing was wrong even so if he did not anyway others would do, but why vitaly did that? Is it worth dying for unknown people?*
Hank R. Hill
Gotta say he had the best death stare ive ever seen
Eleeth Tahgra
...good businessman. He didnt kill the gunrunner after the mess the brother caused.
Why must movies make the AK look like some precision weapon...lmao...they shot him to hell yet a perfect grouping on his chest....lmao...... OK
The reason I'll be released is the same reason you think I'll be convicted. I do rub shoulders with some of the most vile, sadistic men calling themselves leaders today. But some of these men are the enemies of your enemies. And while the biggest arms dealer in the world is your boss - the President of the United States, who ships more merchandise in a day than I do in a year - sometimes it's embarrassing to have his fingerprints on the guns. Sometimes he needs a freelancer like me to supply forces he can't be seen supplying. So. You call me evil, but unfortunately for you, I'm a necessary evil.
Evil prevails...for now.
the ones that know don't care and the ones that care don't know. Great clip thanks for posting
this movie is based on Yuri bout
A. Soldier
And yet we try to cover up the truth about the world. On a side note, Jared Leto really dies a lot in these movies, Alexander is another such example of this.
Vincent McGhee
my opinion this is Cage's best film. its excellent!
Timmy Flaherty
Evil prevails when good men fail to act. You're just standing there guys, I'm the only one fighting evil. As God watches you just before Judgement Day, everyone in the universe is asking; what are YOU going to do in the fight against evil?
3:17 look at his face 😂😂😂🔥
rayon got his ass lit up

Its kind of quite amazing this film got made. It says too many true and uncomfortable things about the world, it's crazy that it was deliberately sacked by studios and critics, even though it is vastly underrated.
english russian accent zucks lol
Haven't seen this film but the opening title and this scene alone make it look worth watching, despite - or because of - it's bleakness.
he had the chance, and many more before. It's just weakness
I worry about Baptiste Sr.
Perhaps it is a question of ideas against reality.. Sure, its nice to say we can change things, but the reality is a whole lot more complex
Yudha Bagaskara
too bad that he went rogue near the end
Makoto Mikami
"Vitaly, you're getting married!" that would've stopped him.
Connor Harison
The guy at 3:13 represents just how I feel about 30 Seconds to mars.
Mr Logical
In *THIS WORLD, IN THIS CURRENT EXISTENCE WE ARE IN,* evil usually does prevail unfortunately. Ya gotta just *HOPE FOR THE BEST, AND PREPARE FOR THE WORST.*
Rob S.
"something for Yuri" he almost gets Yuri killed along with himself
Odin Ponzi
They could have sold the rpg and granades and taken the ak47's off the table.
Diego Ornelas
Jared Leto!
Wanthana Janpan
That deal was the last straw for Yuri's family. Ava tails him and finds out Yuri hasn't changed. Which leads to Valentin finding his storage cointainer. Vitaly dies. And to top it all off Mom and dad don't want anything to do with him. Evil does prevail. If it didn't Yuri would have been locked up at the end of the movie
Jay John
Strong, emotional scene!
Colloquial Soliloquy
So the SJW,pleads to who he thinks has the power to be good. Good does not fight evil.Great fights evil. So the SJW,pleads to his elected officials to be good. America are not the bad guys. You just aren't the good guy anymore, nevermind great.
Amitabha Kassap
Well, did he conclude the deal?

Except for the truly good good people... I wish I could be bad but I can't I fear the lord a whole lot and it makes me so angry being that I have tried to be a good man all of my life and part exceeded most people's degree and level of righteousness yet this is how I am this is where I'm at it makes me feel like God is a liar and his none of his promises are true it makes me feel as though the Bible is a fairytale and I have been conned into a political scheme
John Mcdonald 123
Heart wrenching scene.. Great acting.. What a film!
I don't think you can just pop the pin back in, can you? Wouldn't enemies carry spare pins if you could stop it exploding like that? Wouldn't the fuse by lit? Anyone know?
Robbie Lee
I rather them being chopped with bullets than chopped up by Machetes
girls poop too
This world is so harsh For some
the worst part is when they destroyed that beautiful golden AK
Ahmad Zafar
Yes! His brother was weak! Just like me.
